Tommi Bass was born in London in 1968. During the late 1980’s he began to study Fine Art and he made first experiments with music as part of sound installations.

In 1992 Tommi Bass moved to Wales to start his degree in Fine Art at the Newport School of Art. At this time he really began to DJ and he was instrumental in setting up illegal parties in Welsh forests and unused warehouses. At these parties he played the freshest Detroit Techno – later he switched to playing the new U.K. urban sound called Jungle Breakbeat.
Tommi Bass then played Darkstep (and later Techstep and Drum&Bass) in selected underground clubs around Wales and other parts of the U.K.
At the end of his degree in 1996 he built his own recording studio and continued to experiment with sound. And this time he teamed up with Mark Stretfield, the later label owner of Rednetic Recordings London.

In 2000 Tommi Bass stopped playing Drum&Bass after he saw DJ Kool Herc perform at the TJ’s Nightclub in Newport/Wales: DJ Kool Herc blew me away with his selection of funk breaks…it was profound. It was a period of reflection for Tommi as he quickly built up his Funk collection to perform in music bars and underground clubs.

In 2004 he began to produce „Experimental Techno“ music again.

Since 2006 Tommi Bass has had a constant stream of „Underground Techno“ published on various dance music labels such as Steal My Oil (U.K.), Minimal People Inc (U.K), D-Fault Records (USA), Bosphorus Underground (Turkey), Seta Label (Slovakia), Tao-Dan Records (France), Multipraktik Recordings (Serbia), Enter Label (Sweden),  Documenti Sonori Records (Spain/Germany), Substation (Germany), Code2 Records (Germany), Schwarzweiss Musik (Germany), Sud Up Recordings (U.K.) and Rednetic Recordings (U.K.).
These independent labels have let him get away with murder and encourage him to explore the more avant-garde side of electronic dance music. I don’t get any chart topping hits from my music…it’s a little bit too fucked up and off the wall for most peoples taste…and I kinda like it that way…”.

In 2008 Tommi Bass moved to Berlin. “I moved from the U.K to explore the Berlin underground Techno scene, to absorb the sounds…the textures of the buildings, to integrate them into my soul. Hopefully the results can now be found in one of my latest releases Textures From Berlin (Rednetic Recordings) or in my work with Code2 Records, a  Berlin based Minimal Techno label.”

Tommi Bass plays his monumental Minimal Techno sets in Berlin’s underground clubland. I’m a real DJ… for me focussing on just one genre is not what DJing is about. Sure I love Techno… but I need to  play out other genres as well…”. In music bars scattered around Berlin he plays secret gigs far away from the limelight. Here he plays 70’s Raw Funk, Northern Soul, Breakbeat Jazz,  80’s Electro Hip Hop and 90’s Hip Hop – the music that has inspired him as a cutting edge underground Techno producer and DJ for over two decades.

It’s been a long road of personal discovery for this renegade DJ/Producer and the best is yet to come as he slowly picks up steam in the city he loves with all his heart… Berlin.

Tommi Bass started to work with interactive sound sculpture and installation sculpture artworks, fabricating “Living Environments”. These sculptures deal with the interaction between people and the new technology of the early 90’s (i.e. early internet and video games).
The fascination of creating environments for imagined people and his professional building/ fabricating skills provided a springboard to later working on low-budget/independent films as a production set designer and art director.

In 2004 the focus went back to full time music production and in his spare time collecting new images of street art and urban decay for future mixed media art projects. The results will be exhibited in Berlin this year.

In 2008 Tommi Bass and the German visual artist producktion founded B.B.S.C.

B.B.S.C. – BERLIN BIRD SHIT CHIC is an expanding underground project and includes experimental film, photography, installations, sculpture, music, design and fashion. “We encompass dirt, grain and experimental textures…in all media… A deconstructive based humour has also an important role in the BERLIN BIRD SHIT CHIC manifesto”.
